On this project, we install a landscape designed by Jim Savage of Savage Plants and Landscape. This is a full landscape installation including a complete lawn removal/renovation, lots of dirtwork and sculpting, dry creek beds, drainage, plantings, and a large water feature with a running creek, falls and a pond.
Here are some photos and notes from the installation of the pond and waterfalls. Click on a pic to view a larger image, and click again to shrink it.
The installation starts with partner Travis Meyer roughing out the shape and depth of the pond with an excavator. Then the pond liner goes in, and all of the large stones are set.
Once the large rocks are set, the liner is covered with river rock.
Two pumps are installed to move water through skimmers and from the bottom of the upper and lower pools, up to an outlet weir at the top of the “creek”
Once the liner is covered, the whole thing is pressured washed and pumped several times to remove as much of the silt and sand as possible.
Next, the pond is filled by a water truck with about 7,000 gallons of water. Then, we hold our breath and turn on the plumbing.
In a future article, you can see some pics of the pond finished with plants, as well as some before and after pics of the entier landscape project. To read about other landscape projects we have done, check the Landscape Projects page, and visit the Outdoors By Design website.
