I like to think I know a little bit about bamboo, but I know next to nothing about peonies, except that right now, cutting peonies has been eating up about 16 hours of my day! Here's a little history and some pics of what's been keeping from my blog. A few years back, I got the bright idea of purchasing about an acre of peonies, all set up for a little cut flower business including and old, ramshackle cooler (that works quite well). My wife bought into the idea (just because she loves me) and my brother, who is a tree peony fanatic , was an easy mark quickly taken in by the beauty of a field of herbaceous beauties. So in spring of 2006, doing all of the work ourselves, we started selling peonies. We sell virtually all of our flowers to Brother's United, just a minute or two from the field, which in turn sells to wholesale floral companies around the country. Here's some documentary pics I have taken since then. Click on the pics to view a larger image. With our record heat, our usual four week cutting season is all but over in just two weeks! So, it will be back to blogging about bamboo and landscape work for the rest of the summer. For more about peonies, check out the Peonies Plus website. The owner and our good friend Frank Dickson, is the one that got us started with peonies, and he offers a wide selection of cut flowers and roots both wholesale and retail.
